Big-budget Marvel movies have more or less dominated the movie world, but AAA games about these characters are a bit hard to get-especially outside of Sony's first-party PlayStation products. Now another studio is making a big splash on Marvel: Sky Dance new media, directed by former Uncharted leader Amy Hennig (Amy Hennig).

Skydance New Media issued a press release announcing that it "cooperated with Marvel Entertainment to develop a narrative-driven blockbuster action-adventure game with a completely original story and Marvel universe." There are no more details on what form the game will take, but Jay Ong, head of Marvel Games, said that more information will be provided "when the time is right."

After years of sporadic releases, Disney and its huge media franchise catalog have begun to return to the traditional AAA video game world. Sony and Insomniac are developing Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine for PlayStation 5. Firaxis is working on the multi-platform Marvel strategy game Midnight Suns. (We also have Indiana Jones from Machine Games and Star Wars from Ubisoft, as well as a remake of KOTOR.)

"Midnight Sun" has an original character created by the player in an unexplored corner of the Marvel Universe, which makes the details of the "completely original story" of this new game stand out. Can we see another game trying to introduce new heroes to the Marvel myth?

After holding our card close to the vest for so long, we are happy to finally be able to share the news! We have had a great time working with @MarvelGames in the first project of @Skydance New Media, and can’t wait to share more. Keep improving! https://t.co/opj87SJwQ6

Amy Hennig left Naughty Dog early in the production of Uncharted 4 in 2014. She soon joined Visceral and EA, working on the development of the Star Wars game code-named Ragtag, but the unfortunate fate of the project is now well known.
